autism awareness year
This website grew out of Autism Awareness Year 2002 (AAY) which was
planned and developed by The Disabilities
Trust and the British
Institute for Brain Injured Children (BIBIC).
AAY attracted high
profile support from the prime minister, opposition leaders,
professionals and partners – with dozens of local and
national events organised across the UK. Messages of support
AAY aimed to raise
awareness, through voluntary sector partnerships, of the issues
surrounding autism, and to influence and inspire action to
facilitate the changes needed to services and attitudes about
autism.
It was ratified by
the National Autistic Society and a host of autism related
organisations, who joined the year as partners.
Together the partners
created a Manifesto for Change, highlighting those areas where
action was most needed.
The Autism Awareness
website, launched in 2002, continues to support the work of
all the partners as we take forward the success achieved during
Autism Awareness Year 2002.
