all party support
The All-Party Parliamentary
Group on Autism (APPGA) was formed in 2000 to raise parliamentary
awareness of autism and campaign for changes to government
policy
In May 2003, the group published a manifesto
setting out its goals. This has been written after wide consultation
with people with autism, parents and carers, local groups
and national organisations, and is designed to complement
the Autism Awareness Year Manifesto for Change.
The all-party manifesto sets out four general
principles:
- Training
- Research
- Service provision
- Tracking and planning of services
and 11 specific objectives relating to:
- Diagnosis and family support
- Early intervention, primary and secondary
education
- Medical care and interventions
- Respite provision/short breaks
- Mental health
- Meaningful activity and leisure
- Welfare support
- Social support
- Further/higher education
- Employment
- Housing
The objectives are designed to be achieved
in the next ten years.
